JOB SUMMARY

Strategic account manager focused on our lithium battery business.  Works with current and future customers with the lithium value chain including cathode, battery and Auto OEMs.  Manages strategic customer accounts to deliver sales targets for the Lithium business segments in alignment with Albemarle’s values and sales processes. Develops and implements sales plans with clear account priority coordinating with commercial leadership.  Utilizes Challenger skills for value selling.  Uses strategic thinking to mobilize new customers and understand decisions and implications of each section of the value chain.

FUNCTIONAL SCOPE

  • Sell Albemarle’s Lithium products and grow sales revenue at strategic accounts.
  • Own the Albemarle customer interface with assigned strategic customer portfolio as well as new customers within the value chain.
  • Maintain and improve market, customer and competitor information.
  • Achieve/exceed sales objectives through both revenue & profit through value added selling.
  • Take a leading role in developing value propositions with business leaders and supporting functional groups to demonstrate performance improvements and/or value creation for customers.
  • Successfully negotiate, implement and secure key/large business opportunities through contracts.
  • Forecast accurate sales volume and revenues and meets/exceeds the annual operating plan targets.
  • Build and maintain key customer relationships at various senior management levels and throughout new and existing customer organizations (high, wide and deep).
  • Identify and develop new opportunities within the strategic customer portfolio as well as new customers for Albemarle for the future (cathode, battery or Auto OEM customers).
  • Translate market plans to actionable tasks and tactics supporting the business strategy.

  • Ensures that sales call/negotiation planning, execution, and SFDC reporting are executed.
  • Develop, teach and apply Challenger Selling tools and techniques to customer interactions.
  • Understands the EV battery value chain and assess and communicates changes to the business and other internal functions and adjusts key account strategies as required.
  • Optimize Albemarle internal relationships with business, technical service, S&OP, manufacturing, CSR and finance to maximize rate of success.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & CAPABILITIES

  • BS degree in technical or business related discipline – prefer MBA, MS or PhD
  • MINIMUM EXPERIENCE IN YEARS:

– Minimum 10 years of sales/commercial experience
– Experience managing large, strategic sales accounts
– 5 years of Chemical Industry experience preferred
– Strategic thinking and new business development skills
– OEM background preferred
– Open to remote or out of office environment

  • Seasoned strategic account management skills with the ability to manage, key customers and key accounts with value selling skills.
  • New business development skills and mindset and willingness to traverse the Electric Vehicle value chain.
  • Basic knowledge of chemical industry and chemical applications; Lithium knowledge preferred
  • Strong negotiation skills and resiliency to tough situations.
  • Ability to develop relationships and influence across multiple functions of customer organization
  • Understanding of the Challenger Selling principles.
  • Analytical skills to evaluate value chain, risks, growth potential of accounts, etc.
  • Fluent in English
